In college, it’s all too easy to lose ourselves in studying for exams and having fun with friends — and completely neglect the food that we eat. When our parents aren’t cooking healthy, homemade meals for us every night, we resort to the French fries and ice cream in the dining hall and never say no to late night pizza. But what if college students were inspired to learn about food, to get creative in the dining hall and try new recipes in their apartment kitchens? That’s why we’re here.
Spoon is a new, student-run food magazine for college students dedicated to making food more than just sustenance. Our mission is to open college students’ eyes to cooking and everyday food in a way that’s relatable, accessible, entertaining and delicious. We’re here to provide students with the tools they need to eat well at home and in the dining halls, seek out new restaurants, maintain a healthy lifestyle and, most importantly, to care about the food they eat.
We also want you to know that all of the dishes you see on this website are made and photographed (and eaten) by Northwestern college students. We create and adapt recipes to suit college kids’ needs and we encourage you all to try cooking for yourself (or at least pressure an off-campus friend to cook for you). We’re starting with the basics and working our way up from there.
Stay updated with the online edition of our magazine, but keep your eye out for the print issues coming to NU every quarter!
